Today there was a little car
driving in the left lane
at two miles an hour
Then it suddenly stopped

Maybe it ran
out of gas

In front of me with hazards on
and a Jesus loves you but He
loves me better
bumper sticker

I hope Jesus loves you
I surely don’t
As you cause me to hit the brakes
so that I don’t crash into you

I also swerved
and hoped for the best

They say it’s best to be able to
gauge the distance between cars
like a football field
So that you can stop in time

Watch the wind synapse collapse
Strands of pearls
of wisdom entwined
reflected in a spider web

Outside such an elegant web
And beauty within
See the pulses of electrical light
From within the milky night

Entropic traffic within
Lights trail above
There’s a full moon
The sandbar changed form

Miles away
The waves sculpt the shore
Then sabotage their efforts once more
The moving depths.

Steal my breath
There’s a mood to match
A wave to catch
A mood in a major key.

Shifting away
to the minor key
The windy black sea returns
An absence of sun to burn.

Close by a man
Is wrestling with a sea creature
That doesn’t want to leave
Its home of aquatic anonymity.

Tell him to find me
A perfect white shell
That remains throughout
What the sea threw out.

Dew on a grass blade
Rims on an Escalade
Fog in the Everglades

I drive for miles
Telephone wired roads
With hanging English signs

Once I loved a commute
Sometimes I still do
Traffic without diversions

Save for dew
on a grass blade
Fog in the Everglades

Turnpike travel
Western stretch
North south expanse

Thirty miles west
Then back east again
Here is the frontier
